Vai Atare is on the southeast side of Rano Kanu crater on Easter Island, where in the later days before European contact the Birdman competators raced down this cliff to swim to the small islands off shore and gather eggs. The cult which raised the great Moai was toppled -figuratively and literally - by the militant bird man cult.
