Three Rivers Petroglyph site contains over 21,000 individual images in a 1.5 mile square site. It is one of the densest concentrations of rock art in the Americas. The images at Three Rivesrs come from the Archaic, Ancestral Puebloan and Apache cultures. Much of the art work is associated with the Jornada Mogollon culture. The images are also stylistically related to Mimbres pottery also found in the area. Three Rivers has a small habitation site but the population would never have been sufficient to account for the density of images.
The time span of the artwork speaks to the permanence of the place as an important site.
