Tumbula’s Church
A Maya woman walks past Tumbula's church. Tumbula is a Mayan Chol town near Joloniel. The church was built in the 1600s and damaged by an earthquake in 1954. JL Steven's mentions the church and the town in his Incidents of Travel in Central America, written in 1848.
The inside of the church has a Mayan long count date written in an alcove.
Because Tumbula is at the top of a ridge, it does not have adequate water supply. The town is out of water at the end of the dry season.
